Netflix has become a place where a viewer can watch TV shows without the annoying disruption of commercials, advertising agencies however quite dislike this platform as their content is no longer viewed and they lose money as less and less people see their product. This then forces advertisements to be viewed in the only way possible, where the product is placed in the TV show itself. This can also be seen in countless other platforms such as music videos and movies.
Artists use this placement of ads in their music videos to promote the product and get viewers to buy the product, making them think "Oh that's so cool, Beyonce has used it too." An example I will be looking into is the music video by Drake- Nice for What (Drake's video).
In the music video he has very little products being shown but the two that I found most prominent were those of Champion Hoodies and the Off White Nike Air Jordan 1s. Now first let's start with the Champion hoodie that displayed the word "HARVARD" on it, this product had quite a lot of screen time and what's important to note is that Drake has a brand deal with them, creating his very own custom "DRAKE" shirt (can be found here: https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/champion-uo-drake-tee). Now this means that Champion was promoted in the video and this then has an effect on us because when we see Yara Shahidi, an actress and model wearing it we think, first off that hoodie is really cute, and then when we see her doing work, she seems as one to get stuff done. This would then be projected to me at least as if I get that hoodie, I can show off my goals and be pushed to try and achieve those goals, which will prompt me to work hard.
The other brand association we see would be the Off White Nike Air Jordan 1s shown in the video (found here: Air Jordan 1s: Off White). The woman wearing these shoes is in a beautiful red dress and she is seen sitting on the stairs dancing with these shoes. This would make me think if I had these shoes I would be able to be seen as beautiful and cool, even, as there is already a lot of stigma around Jordans.
To conclude, the connection to Madison and Vine is prominent because the placement in the videos is only seen if you truly analyze and watch the video a couple times. And the effect of the brands promoted makes you want to buy the product, showing a prime example of  discreet product placement.
